The Wilderness Awaits

Tsavo East and West National Parks combine to boast one of the largest national parks in the world. The big five (Elephants, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard) all call this place their domain, adding to an incredible diversity of wildlife with over 500 species of birds.

From the red dust of the savannah to the cool, lush oases, every corner of Tsavo tells a story of nature’s resilience and beauty. At Manyatta Camp, you’re perfectly positioned to experience the full spectrum of Tsavo’s flora and fauna. From game drives to birdwatching, the adventure awaits just beyond your doorstep.
Tsavo East
The Untamed Wilderness

Tsavo East is renowned for its dramatic landscape, where the vast, flat plains are dotted with acacia trees and the famous Galana River meanders through the park, providing a critical lifeline for wildlife. Known for its immense herds of red elephants, Tsavo East is the perfect destination for those seeking an authentic, unspoiled safari experience. As you explore the park, you’ll come across:

The Yatta Plateau
The Yatta Plateau is one of the world’s longest lava flow, stretching approximately 290 km along Tsavo East’s western boundary. This ancient geological wonder shapes the region’s horizon and serves as both a remarkable natural landmark and a vital corridor for wildlife.
Mudanda Rock

Mudanda Rock is a 1.6 km-long inselberg rising spectacularly from the plains of Tsavo East. Serving as a natural water catchment, it feeds a seasonal dam below, attracting herds of elephants and abundant wildlife, particularly during the dry season. The rock is also a favoured location for exclusive experiences: we offer bush breakfasts and sundowners, offering panoramic views and unforgettable moments in the bush.

Aruba Dam and Aruba Plains

Constructed in 1952 across the Voi River, Aruba Dam creates a vital water reservoir that draws diverse game and prolific birdlife, especially during drier months. The surrounding Aruba Plains feature open savanna and acacia woodland, providing exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and classic big-game safari scenes.

Lugard Falls
Named after British explorer Frederick Lugard, these dramatic white-water rapids cascade over sculpted rocks along the Galana River. The falls are renowned for their striking, eroded channels and are a scenic highlight for visitors exploring the heart of Tsavo East National Park. They mark a pivotal point for wildlife during the dry season and are easily accessed near the Yatta Plateau.
Tsavo West
A Land of Lions & Lava

Contrasting with Tsavo East’s wide-open savannahs, Tsavo West is a landscape of rugged beauty, from the volcanic lava flows to the palm-fringed waters of Mzima Springs. Known for its dramatic views and its large population of mane-less lions, Tsavo West offers a more intimate safari experience. Notable highlights include:

Mzima Springs

A stunning oasis fed by springs from the Chyulu Hills, Mzima Springs is home to hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species. Visitors can enjoy the clear waters and spot aquatic wildlife from the viewing platforms.

Chaimu Crater
A dormant volcanic crater offering breathtaking views of the park’s diverse terrain. The surrounding landscape is ideal for nature walks and offers unique wildlife viewing opportunities.

Both Tsavo East and Tsavo West offer a wealth of experiences for every kind of traveler, from thrilling game drives and nature walks to breathtaking views and abundant wildlife sightings. Whether you’re seeking adventure or simply a tranquil connection with nature, Tsavo’s diverse landscapes and wildlife provide an unforgettable safari experience.
